Curse my laziness! Got a lot to catch up on so I might as well get started.

Well, first off, I’ll say that VAMPS really likes women on their covers lately. Nothing wrong with that! She has wings with white and black feathers? Hm, maybe not a pure angel. Anyway! Here we go:

ANGEL TRIP is an active, upbeat song. Normally, I like darker styles of music, but this is really quite catchy! Hyde does a great job with vocals and the accompaniment is awesome. The guitar solos between the verses are simple but add to the energy that this song already implies. Everything seems to compliment each other greatly.

KYUKETSU -SATSUGAI VAMPS Version- Wow, I was really surprised and happy when I first heard this song. This song has a much heavier texture. Fat bass lines and lots of nice kick drum here. Hyde uses a more aggressive tone and some other effect to distort his voice more (sounds to me like doing a second recording of the same verses with a slightly different style and overlapping them). As with most metal songs, they use a distorted tone and of course, there is a solo which shows off KAZ’s talents (I think he’s the one that does the solos haha).

Overall: Very good single. The songs have a nice contrast and their energy is inspiring!

[Single] VAMPS – Devil Side

2010年 5月 22日

SO, I have been extremely lazy as you know. Been taking summer classes and doing practice while trying to relax. Anyway, I’ll try and get review out in a more timely manner (hah, we’ll see) xD.

***Aoliwa cover note*** That is one sexy cover. Hot sh*t VAMPS.

Devil Side is a generally upbeat song. Hyde really is pushing on the vampire and basically satanic lyrics. I like it though! He does a great job incorporating it into his music. The music itself is good. There is steady bass and at some point a short guitar solo. This is a pretty decent song! For some reason, the one I got is a lot quieter than the B-side….

Live Wire, the B-side of this single, is a lot more upbeat. Starts off with a little guitar and a burst of full-band. Then the second time they basically shoot straight into the first verse. The chorus is pretty simple. It’s not so hard to find repetition in many songs, but of course… it is used effectively! There is also a section which seems kind of like Hyde is trying to seduce you. I’m personally not a fan of complete muffling of sound in rock music, but they use it near the end.

Overall: Pretty upbeat single, dealing of course with the symptoms of satan and fulfilling desire. VAMPS does a great job!
